TDIA members approved new bylaws Tuesday night, setting up a seven-member governing board to operate TDIA on behalf of its members. Four officers and three directors of the Governing Board elected are: Elvin Noel, president; Cathie Smith, vice president; Sarah Maloney, secretary; Bonita Price, treasurer; and Bruce Constant, Wendell Lenhart and Neil Nuttall, directors.

Members of the governing board will meet regularly and will work closely with the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce staff and directors to promote Trenton. Earlier this month, the TDIA membership and the Chamber directors approved a contract for the Chamber to provide management and administrative services to TDIA. The Chamber will also assist TDIA in the sale of $446,116 in tax credits awarded TDIA through the Neighborhood Assistance Program of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Money raised through the sale of the tax credits coupled with donations to TDIA will be deposited into a revolving loan account. Money is this account will be loaned to downtown Trenton commercial building and business owners for a variety of building improvement projects.
Mr. Noel said he was eager for TDIA and the Chamber to sell the tax credits, so loans can be made for needed improvements. “This is going to be great,” he said.

Debbie Carman, president of the Chamber, agreed. “We all have a common goal, to save the downtown our ancestors built for us. Our generation will save it for future generations,” she said.
As building and building owners repay to TDIA the initial loans, that money can be loaned again to building and business owners or spent by TDIA on projects to benefit the community.

Cathie Smith added, “We will see a new Trenton.”
