On June 30th, the Chillicothe Constitution Tribune ran a front page photo of people in Simpson Park.
The publication prompted a citizen to anonymously notify the Livingston County Sheriff's office of a registered sex offender in the local park.
Missouri law prohibits certain sex offenders from being within 500 feet of a public park with playground equipment, and/or a swimming pool.
The subsequent investigation included the Livingston County Sheriff's office obtaining the digital photo from the newspaper, which supports the allegation the individual was in violation of this Missouri Law.
The Livingston County Sheriff arrested and served a Livingston County arrest warrant on Derryl Gene Matthes, 67, Chillicothe for alleged Sex Offender Present/Loitering within 500 feet of park with playground/pool 1st offense, class D felony.
Mr. Matthes was incarcerated in the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail. Bond was initially placed at $2,500.
Part of any registered offenders obligations is to periodically, as frequent as every 90 days, report to the county sheriff and register certain information. Included in every registration form is information on this and other legal requirements.
