Announcement has been made the Trenton Farmers Market opens for the season this coming Saturday, June 22nd.
The Farmers Market is to be available each Saturday from 8 to 12 noon at the livestock pavilion on the North Central Missouri Fairgrounds. Set up time begins at 7 o'clock.
Current organizer Jennifer Farmer said the purpose of the Trenton Farmers Market is to provide a local venue for direct sales of farm grown produce, farm products, other food products, and related goods directly to consumers. The Market, she said, will also aim to educate citizens about Missouri agriculture, healthy eating, and sustainable living in order to benefit the entire community.
In a statement, Mrs. Farmers said a town like Trenton, so deeply rooted in agriculture, seemed to be lacking a local venue allowing farmers and other artisans the ability to sell directly to the public.
She pointed out buying locally-grown food or other items bolsters the local economy.
The cost to be a farmers market vendor is five dollars per week or 40 dollars for the season.
Applications, including information, rules and guidelines--are available at a web site of Mrs. Farmer's business: Farmers Apothecary. Applications also will be available Saturday with those interested in being a vendor just showing up around 7 a-m.
Vendor fees are used for advertising, marketing, and signage to grow the market.
Volunteers also are sought to help with the farmers' market.
