The version voted into law last week prohibits lighted tobacco products in all enclosed places of employment within Excelsior Springs. This includes bars and public transportation. Smoking is also forbidden within ten feet of the main entrance of buildings included in the ban.

Twenty-five percent of hotel rooms are excluded. Smoking is also still allowed in businesses who make more than 80 percent of their sales off tobacco or smoking products.

A business found to be in violation of the ordinance will receive a $100 fine for the first offense. Individuals who break the law will be fined $50.

Buildings affected by the ban must come into compliance by July 2nd.
