Bradley Wilkins, 44, Kirksville, entered the guilty plea to a felony charge of possession of meth. Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson had asked the court for a 20 year sentence due to Wilkins' eight previous felony convictions.

Judge Russell Steele sentenced Wilkins to 20 years in prison. He is also to be placed in the long term treatment program with the Department of Corrections. However, Judge Steele could release Wilkins on probation if he is successful in the treatment program over the next two years. If he is released on probation, he will be required to complete an 18 month rehabilitation program at Heartland Recovery Center.

During an investigation in July of last year near the north interchange of Highway 63 and Business 63, Kirksville Police officers and Adair County Sheriff’s deputies examined bags in a scooter Wilkins had allegedly abandoned at the scene. Contents in those bags tested positive for chemicals used to manufacture meth.

Due to his prior felony convictions, Wilkins could have received life in prison.
