News : Well Known Mercer Coach And Wife Assaulted; One Person Arrested

Arraignment is scheduled May 21st in Circuit Court at Princeton for a Marshall man arrested on five felony counts stemming from altercations Friday at Mercer.

64 year old Gene Pattie, a former Trenton resident, is to be arraigned at 9 o'clock that morning in the associate division of Mercer County Circuit Court. He is to appear before Judge Brad Funk who denied bond due to what the probable cause statement considered Pattie as a threat to the crime victims and to the community.

Mercer county deputy sheriff Jimmy See wrote in his report that Pattie showed quote ‚Äúno remorse‚ÄĚ for his actions.

Charges were filed by Mercer county prosecuting attorney John Young. Pattie faces charges of attempted murder in the first degree; felony assault in the first degree; attempted forcible rape; and two counts of armed criminal action.

67 year old Dave Neimeyer is hospitalized in Des Moines, Iowa after sustaining three gunshot wounds while at his woodworking shop on State Street after 5 o'clock on Friday.

At the Neimyer residence on north state street, Pattie is accused of assaulting 59 year old Virginia Neimeyer. He was apprehended at the scene. A 38 caliber handgun was recovered by the Mercer county sheriff's department from the trunk of Pattie's car.
