Playing their first two games of a spring break road trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the North Central Missouri College baseball team split a pair of hard-fought, low-scoring games over the weekend. The Pirates beat Salem Community College 3-1, but fell in a 13 inning marathon to Lakeland Comunity College, 4-3.
In the loss to Lakeland, Caleb Bounds went the final 2 1/3 innings on the mound for NCMC, taking the defeat. Silas Bohannan threw superbly for the Pirates, striking out eight batters over 5 innings of work. He got the no-decision. Zach McGill had two hits, scored a run, and drove in a run for North Central.
In the contest against Salem, the NCMC 'Cross' brothers, Alex and Zach, combined on a complete-game three-hitter, with Zach giving up a run in the top of the seventh, but earning the save, in the 3-1 NCMC victory. Alex Cross went the first six innings, giving up only one hit in a sparkling shutout effort. North Central was able to take a 3-0 lead into the final inning on the strength of a three-run rally in the bottom of the third inning, with Cody Lee and Lucas Powers picking up RBI's.
North Central Missouri College is now 2-4 on the baseball season, and will continue play later this week in Myrtle Beach.
