KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Cameron, Marceline girls advance to "Final Four"

The Cameron Lady Dragons postseason surge has brought Coach Matt Wenck's squad all the way to the "Show-Me Showdown" in Columbia, after Cameron beat Stockton in the Class 3 state quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the Independence Events Center, 55-52.

The victory improves Cameron's record to 19-11 on the season, and sends the Lady Dragons into a state semifinal against 24-5 St. James on Thursday evening at 5 o'clock at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. In the win over Stockton, sophomore guard Melia Richardson led Cameron with 22 points, with Brooke Lee adding 12, and Ashli Lykins 10 points. Stockton was led by Jolene Shipps with 22 points and Sarah Spurgeon with 14.

In the other Class 3 girl's semifinal on Thursday, 26-4 St. Peters Lutheran will play 20-6 North Technical, with tip-time scheduled for 3:20 at Mizzou Arena. In the state quarterfinals last Saturday, Lutheran beat Twin Rivers, 72-56 and North Tech slipped by Palmyra 55-53. St. James beat Ash Grove by a final score of 63-54.

For the first time since 1975, the Marceline Lady Tigers have advanced to the "Final Four", after a 41-37 victory over the Sturgeon Lady Bulldogs on Saturday at Moberly Area Community College.

The win improves Marceline's record to an impressive 27-3, and sends the Lady Tigers into a 12 noon tip on Thursday at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, against 20-10 New Haven. In the quarterfinal win, Madison McCormick led Marceline with 21 points.

New Haven advanced to the Class 2 girls "Final Four" with a 58-56 overtime win over Neelyville. On the bottom half of the bracket, Crane beat Crocker 69-66 and Maysville struggled in falling to Skyline by a final score of 61-33 at the Independence Events Center.

Crane and Skyline will play on Thursday at 1:40 at the Hearnes Center.

In Maysville's loss to Skyline, the Lady Wolverines fell behind double-digits in the first quarter and could never recover against their hot-shooting opponents. Taylor Hale had 14 points and Torri Blythe 10 for Maysville.

Eminence vs. Drexel - 3:20 PM at Hearnes Center

CLASS 1 GIRLS:
Chadwick vs. Walnut Grove - 6:40 PM at Hearnes Center
Mercer vs. Chamois - 8:20 PM at Hearnes Center (Coverage on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com)
