The Class 2, District 16 championship games on Saturday night at Gallatin High School brought two wild games to the floor, with the winners advancing into the state playoffs being the Albany boys and the Maysville girls.

For the Lady Wolverines, it was a mixture of relief and joy in another trip into the 'Sweet 16', after surviving a strong test from Gallatin, winning in overtime by a score of 54-43. The GRC champion Maysville girls were led by Torri Blythe with 17 points, Taylor Hale with 12, and Kristin Strong with 10. The win sends Maysville into a Wednesday night first-round playoff game with North Platte at Staley High School in Kansas City. North Platte, on Saturday, won the District 15 title, 54-31 over Cass-Midway. Gallatin, in Saturday's district championship loss, had 17 points from Kailey Salmon. The Lady Bulldogs finish the season at 17-10, but figure to be one of the pre-season GRC favorites in 2013-2014, returning nearly everybody off of this year's squad.

The Albany boys, given another shot at knocking off rival South Harrison, did exactly that in Saturday's District 16 final at Gallatin, with the Warriors outscoring the Bulldogs 19-11 in the pivotal fourth quarter and claiming a 64-52 win.

The Warriors had 23 points from point guard Rudy Sagun, with center Tyler Lupfer scoring 12 points, and Drew Bain adding 12. South Harrison had 16 points from Dylan Heitz and 12 points from Kaid Hendren. Albany, after getting through top-seeded Gallatin and #2 seed South Harrison in district play, will see even a stronger opponent in Wednesday night's sectional game at Staley, with the unbeaten and top-ranked West Platte Blue Jays awaiting the Warriors in a 6 o'clock tip-off, West Platte cruised past KCI rival Mid-Buchanan in the District 15 championship game, 59-31.
