New equipment funded by a grant is helping emergency responders, including those at Trenton, when it comes to water rescue incidents.

A Homeland Security grant allows the local dive team known as GASP, the Noll T. Adams Ambulance district in Harrison County, and authorities at St. Joseph to acquire equipment for swift water and ice rescue and recovery.

This is part of an agreement through the Emergency Management Team of northwest Missouri. Through a mutual aid agreement, the specialized
equipment can be requested for use anywhere in northwest Missouri (Region H).

According to Trenton fire department lieutenant Eric Lorenz, who is also an emergency medical technician, Grundy Assorted Scuba Personnel, (or GASP) received a rescue boat with trailer, plus two each involving ice rescue suits and boards, personal floatation devices, dry suits for diving, swift water rescue suits, and SCUBA masks with underwater communications ability.(2 each)
The grant totaled over 44 thousand dollars. In addition to GASP, specialized equipment also was obtained for Noll T. Adams Ambulance District
and for St. Joseph responders.
