Sports : Three Trenton wrestlers finish runner-up at state

Three Trenton High School wrestlers finished second in the Class 1 state tournament that concluded Saturday night at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Carlos Gonzalez lost 6-5 in the 113 pound championship match to Jake Gipson of Plattsburg. Gonzalez finished his senior year with a 39-2 record.

Mason Mounce lost by 12-4 major decision to Rodney Hahn of Whitfield in the 152 pound finals. Hahn, who is a junior, is now a three-time state champion. Mounce finish his sophomore year with a 41-7 record.

Jacob Spillman lost 1-0 to Max Mickey of Holden in the 170 pound championship, with the only point scored coming with a Mickey escape in the second period. Mickey concludes his senior season at 34-0. Spillman, also a senior, was 44-2.

Trenton finished 11th in the team standings with 67 1/2 points. Whitfield was first with 126, with Brookfield second at 109 1/2. Brookfield had six state medalists. The area had only one state champion. That was Marceline freshman Dalton Fisher, first at 106 pounds.

Cameron finished fourth in Class 2 with 102 1/2 points. Oak Grove won the Class 2 title with 172 points. Cameron had five state medalists. Kearney and Neosho tied for first place in Class 3. Park Hill High School won the Class 4 state title.
