Sports : Trenton sweeps PC Midgets

The Trenton boys, for the second time this season, have a victory against the Putnam County Midgets, going to overtime on Friday night before pulling out a 63-55 victory in Unionville, improving the Bulldogs record to 14-9 on the season, and clinching the first winning season at THS for boy's basketball coach Jeremy Austin.

The Bulldogs and Midgets, much like their first meeting of the season (a 68-66 Trenton win at the South Harrison Tournament) battled throughout the close, tense game. A three-point shot by Putnam County's Trey Ream tied the game with 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, and a baseline shot by Trenton senior Colby Larson came up short at the buzzer, sending the game into the extra session.

Trenton outscored Putnam County 10-2 over the four minutes of overtime, including four-of-four free throws from junior forward Wilson Utley. Larson led the Bulldogs with 19 points, with Chase Tolson adding 13 (including a trio of three-point shots), Austin Taul 12, and Wilson Utley 10. For Putnam County, Trey Ream had 19 points (including four three pointers), Riley Wood 13, Deion Hunt 12, and Cory Lewis 10 points.

The girls game started with a 5-0 Putnam County run, but Trenton responded with back-to-back three pointers (two of those from Cassidy Cotton), and while challenged, the Lady Bulldogs would never give up that advantage, holding on for a 49-38 victory, Trenton's 19th of the season.

Cotton and Makaila Capeder both scored 11 points for Trenton, while Camile Banez scored 14 points (including a trio of fourth-quarter three's) for Putnam County. Samantha Shipley added 10 for the Lady Midgets.

Friday night's games were broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and www..kttn.com. The Trenton varsity basketball teams will HOST the Cameron Dragons on Tuesday night, February 12th, with the Senior Night games to be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com.
