The Milan Lady Wildcats rallied in the fourth quarter for an important Tri-Rivers Conference win against Scotland County on Friday night, part of a varsity doubleheader broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and 'Internet TV'.
Milan started very slowly, giving up the first nine points of the contest, but came back in the late stages of the first quarter and second quarter, mainly on the strength of its defense. The Lady 'Cats gave up ONLY four points after the 9-0 start, and a Hannah Sanders jumper with five seconds left in the half gave Milan a 15-13 lead at halftime.
Scotland County, much like in the first half, came out of the gates swiftly in the third quarter, and led 25-23 after three, only to see Sanders control the game's fourth quarter, as the Milan senior scored eight of her game-high 14 points in that frame, with Milan going to 11-8 with the 37-34 win. Andra Sylvester added 10 points for the Lady Wildcats. Hailey Dial paced the Scotland County girls with eight points (all scored in the third quarter).
The Lady Wildcats, on a two-game winning streak coming into the new week, will play at state-ranked Trenton on Thursday night at 6:15 (on KTTN FM 92.3) before hosting Knox County on Friday, February 1st.
The Milan boys struggled mightily in their game against Scotland County, particularly on the offensive end, as the Tigers cruised to a 56-11 win over the Wildcats. Lucas Howard led the visiting Tigers with 18 points, while Jacob Blessing had 13. Raul Palacios had four points to lead the Wildcats.
Courtwarming festivities will held at halftime of the boy's game on Friday night at Milan High School. Named courtwarming queen was Alyssa Forster. Marcus Shipley was named courtwarming king.
