Trenton and Chillicothe men were killed late Friday night when a pickup truck overturned off Highway 190 northwest of Chillicothe and hit two utility poles. Fatally injured were the driver, 27-year old Byron King of Chillicothe and a passenger, 19-year old Dakota "Codi" Nichols. The accident was eight miles northwest of Chillicothe on Highway 190. The Highway Patrol said the eastbound pickup crested a hill at high speed, became airborne, landed on the pavement, then skidded off the right side of the road.
The Patrol said the pickup then hit a barbed wire fence, utility pole, overturned numerous times, hit a second utility pole, and came to rest on its wheels. Nichols was thrown from the vehicle. The Patrol said King was wearing a seat belt, but Nichols was not.
Byron King and Codi Nichols are the first two traffic fatalities in 2013 investigated by the Highway Patrol in Livingston County. |
