KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Milan girls blitz Linn County 67-29, roll into semifinal showdown with North Mercer

The Milan Lady Wildcats, in a Milan Tournament quarterfinal game broadcast Monday evening on Hot Country Z 101.7, rolled past the Linn County Lady Mustangs by a score of 67-29, giving the Lady 'Cats a shot at the top-ranked, once-beaten North Mercer girls, who beat Novinger on Monday afternoon by a score of 82-21.

For the Milan girls, Hannah Sanders led the way with 22 points, with Andra Sylvester scoring 14 points and Emily Sylvester adding 10. Milan will play North Mercer in the Milan Tournament semifinals on Wednesday night at 7 o'clock, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com's "Internet TV". Linn County was led in defeat by Maci Hullinger's 15 points. The Lady Mustangs play Novinger in the consolation semifinal round on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.

The Mercer boys used a strong second quarter surge to pull away from an upset-minded Grundy R-5 team, winning 64-37 in a Milan Tournament quarterfinal broadcast on Monday night on Hot Country Z 101.7. Colton Hartley led the Cardinals with 26 points while Caleb Wyatt had 17. Brody Hatcher paced the Panthers with 12 points with Destin Gann scoring 11. The Cardinals will play Green City in the semifinals on Wednesday at 5:45, with that Cardinal-Gopher game broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3. The Panthers drop to a consolation semifinal with the Brookfield Bulldogs on Wednesday night at 8:15. Green City, in a late night quarterfinal test with Brookfield on Monday night, gave out victorious by a score of 60-50.

In Monday night's other quarterfinal game from Milan, the second-ranked Lady Cardinals from North Mercer cruised past Novinger by a final score of 82-21. In Tuesday night's quarterfinals, the Brookfield girls (seeded #2) take on Grundy R-5 at 4:30, followed by the Milan boys (seeded #7) against Linn County at 5:45, in a game to be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and video-streamed on 'Internet TV' at www.kgozfm.com. At 7 o'clock, the third-seeded Green City Lady Gophers play Newtown-Harris, while at 8:15, the third-seeded Novinger boys take on Newtown-Harris.
