Sports : Grundy R-5 basketball splits games at Hale

In Monday night basketball action from Hale High School, the Grundy R-5 boys picked up their THIRD win in a row, defeating the host Cardinals by a final score of 64-46. The Panthers had momentum coming into the win, with wins over Gilman City and Pattonsburg earning Grundy the consolation hardware at the HDC Conference's annual basketball tournament.

In Monday night's win, Brody Hatcher led Grundy with 17 points, with Stuart Eller adding 12, and Destin Gann and Clayton Radcliff 11 points each. Hayden Hessner led Hale with 13 points.

The Grundy R-5 girls suffered a difficult loss at Hale, falling by a score of 43-42. Elizabeth Novak led the Lady Panthers with 19 points, while Morgan Daniels scored 13 for Hale.

In other Monday night action, the Newtown-Harris girls won at Ridgeway by a score of 33-22. Becca Johnson had 16 points for the Lady Tigers, with Kaylin Carlson scored 14 points for the Lady Owls. The Ridgeway boys beat Newtown-Harris 69-64, with Ben Rinehart and Matthew Craig scoring 19 points for the Owls, with Dakota Hale adding 13. For the Tigers, Adam Crawford had 24 points, with Zach Coin and Micah Busick each scoring 19. Newtown-Harris is 3-5 and Ridgeway 6-1 after Monday's result.

The Gallatin boys went to 9-0 with a 64-52 win over East Buchanan, as Chris Cameron had 17 points, Dexter Daniel 14, Derrick Lin 13, and Daltonn Tompkins 11 for Gallatin. The East Buchanan girls sprung an upset at Gallatin, winning 59-53, dropping GHS to 5-4 on the season.
