In the Novinger Tournament in late November, both the Milan girl's and boy's basketball teams tasted defeat against their in-county rivals from Green City. On Thursday night from Milan High School, the Wildcats got payback against the Gophers in a double-dip broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and 'Internet TV' on www.kttn.com.

Milan led 17-12 after a raggedly-played girl's first half, but pulled away in the second half and cruised to a 50-27 win. Hannah Sanders led the Lady 'Cats with 22 points while Andra Sylvester added 14 and Emily Sylvester eight. Milan improves to 4-3 on the season.

The Milan boys had a topsy-turvy game against Green City, leading 15-7 after one quarter and 31-24 at the half, only to see the visiting Gophers rally to led by four (41-37) after three quarters. A fourth-quarter surge sparked by sophomore guard Holden Stallbaumer was the difference, as the Wildcats outscored the Gophers 23-12 over the final eight minutes for a 60-53 win.

Stallbaumer scored 18 points (10 in the fourth quarter) to lead Milan, with Raul Palacios scoring 14 points and Jordan Eddy 13. The Milan boys are now 3-4 on the season. Green City had Carter King with 16 points, Jared Brundage 10, and Keagan Franey eight.

Milan has an important two-game stretch in the Tri-Rivers Conference coming up over the next few days, with North Shelby traveling to Milan tonight (Friday night), and Putnam County traveling south to 'The Den" on Tuesday night. Both Milan teams enter the weekend with a conference record of 1-2, with home wins over Schuyler County, but road losses at Scotland County and Knox County.
