KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Mercer girls and boys roll into HDC Tournament semifinals

The North Mercer girls and boys basketball teams each won quarterfinal games on Monday night in their home gym, moving into the HDC Conference Tournament's semifinal round on Wednesday night.

The Lady Cardinals improved to 4-0 with a 74-19 victory over the Lady Panthers of Grundy R-5. Sierra Michaelis led Mercer with 35 points with Courtney Owens adding 21 points and Chantel Robinson 10 points. The win moves North Mercer into a 4:30 Wednesday afternoon semifinal with the Pattonsburg Lady Panthers. Grundy R-5 falls into the consolation semifinals, and a 4:30 game on Tuesday afternoon with Cainsville.

The Winston girls took a 52-23 win over Newtown-Harris, pushing the Lady Redbirds into a 7:30 semifinal on Wednesday night against the Gilman City Ladyhawks. Newtown-Harris, in a girl's consolation semifinal, will play North Harrison on Tuesday night at 7:30.

The Mercer boys rolled past Pattonsburg late on Monday night by a score of 75-47, with the lethal backcourt duo of Colton Hartley and Caleb Wyatt combining for 52 points (29 by Hartley) and five three point field goals. Tyler Fore had 13 points in the losing cause for Pattonsburg. The Cardinals will play Winston in the boy's semifinals on Wednesday night at 9 o'clock, with Pattonsburg falling into a boy's consolation semifinal with Newtown-Harris on Tuesday night at 6 o'clock.

The North Harrison Shamrocks shut down the upset-minded Gilman City Hawks in Monday night's other semifinal, winning by a score of 52-29. Garren Gibson had 13 points and Reed Hallock 11 for North Harrison, who will play Ridgeway in Wednesday night's 6 o'clock boys semifinal. Gilman City and Grundy R-5 play in a boy's consolation semifinal on Tuesday night at 9 o'clock.

The ninth place and fifth place games will be played on Thursday night, with the third place and championship games on Friday night, all from the North Mercer High School gymnasium in Mercer, Missouri.
