A Stewartsville man was taken to a St. Joseph hospital hours after an accident in rural Clinton County on Saturday night. The Highway Patrol says the accident (at 9:50 PM Saturday) occurred three miles southwest of Stewartsville on Keller Road.

The accident occurred as a pickup truck, driven by 40-year old Heath Sherer of Stewartsville, was southbound on Keller Road. The truck went off the right side of the rural road and ran into a ditch, where it overturned 1/2 time and came to rest on its top facing south.

Assistance was provided to the Highway Patrol at the scene by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department and the Stewartsville Fire Department. Sherer was not wearing a seat belt. The Patrol's report indicates that Sherer was taken by private vehicle to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph "several hours" after the accident occurred. His injuries were described as SERIOUS.
