News : Seat belt and child restraint checks conducted in Chillicothe

The Chillicothe Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted another seat belts and child restraint check on Friday morning, this time near Field Elementary School. Fifteen citations and two warnings were given.

There were eight citations for a child under age 16 without a safety belt and two citations for a child under eight without a safety device.

There was one citation for an adult driver not wearing a seat belt. There also was one citation each for driving while suspended, no proof of insurance, a window tint violation, and a felony warrant accusing passing of bad checks. There were two warnings for no proof of insurance.

Chillicothe Police Captain Tony Kirkendoll said the purpose of the enforcement operation was "to ensure the safety of drivers, passengers, and children in the vehicles". Additional checks are to made near school zones in Chillicothe.
