The accidents involved a large truck colliding with a train near Chillicothe AND a large truck overturned in western Adair County. Both accidents resulted in the truck drivers taken to hospitals.
The highway patrol said a Chillicothe truck driver, 56 year old Steven Rader, was injured when his eastbound truck pulled into the path of a northbound train.
The location was on Livingston county road 230 at the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks two miles east of Chillicothe. The patrol described injuries as MODERATE for Rader, who was taken by ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
His truck was demolished. The patrol said Rader was using a seat belt. The operator of the train was identified as 34-year old Christopher Breshears of Smithville.
The patrol noted the intersection is controlled by a cross-buck sign with a stop sign above it. The Livingston County Sheriff's Department assisted at the accident scene.
In a related story, an accident three miles west of Novinger has injured a truck driver from Green City.
The Highway Patrol said 48-year old Ira Helton received minor injuries last night when his big truck ran off Highway 6 and overturned onto its passenger side and was demolished. The patrol said Helton was taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville. He was using a seat belt.
