KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Milan Wildcats roar into Class 1 playoffs ranked #9

Many teams have strong momentum heading into the Class 1 district and state football tournaments that start over the next 48 hours, but perhaps none as much as the two-time Tri-Rivers Conference champion Milan Wildcats.

Milan, for the second time in as many seasons, has completed an undefeated regular season, after routing rival Putnam County last Friday night at Cal Hubbard Field by a score of 51-12. The Wildcats finish the regular season at 8-0, having had an off week in Week #4 as the result of a scheduling snafu with Derrick Thomas Academy.

Against Putnam County, Milan's rushing attack continued to be unstoppable, with Mason Thompson going for 227 yards and three touchdowns, while Aaron Richardson matched the scoring output with three touchdowns to go with 197 yards. Brett Sinclair added a touchdown as well.

Milan, by virtue of their unbeaten run, has secured the #1 seed in Class 1, District 6, and a home game in the district quarterfinal round this Friday night against the #8 seed Braymer Bobcats, who enter the game winless on the season at 0-9. Should Milan win, they would advance to the district semifinal round on Halloween Night (Wednesday, October 31st), taking on the winner between Princeton and Fayette, who play this Friday night at 7:00 on KTTN FM 92.3 and www.kttn.com.
