KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Trenton volleyball season ends to two-set defeat to Lexington
Posted by Tom on 2012/10/25 10:40:00 (160 reads) News by the same author

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, in a first round Class 2, District 14 match on Monday night in Higginsville, fell in straight sets to the Minutewomen of Lexington High School by a score of 25-20, 25-21.

Despite overall improvement in the program in 2012, the season ended in disappointing fashion for the Lady Bulldogs, who would lose many close, competitive match-ups into early and mid-October as the competition level increased. Perhaps not helped by the program's lack of tradition, Trenton was delegated as the #6 seed in the district tournament, despite having a better record than two of the teams above them.

In the loss to Lexington, THS was led by Bekah Wiggins and Kate Ewald with two aces each, while Ewald added eight digs and four assists. Gwen Delp had nine digs, Katie Ireland three kills, Lakisha Hughs two kills, and Wiggins with two kills and a block.

In the semifinal round, Lexington was bounced from the tournament by Higginsville in three sets, while St. Paul Lutheran took care of Carrollton in straight sets (Carrollton beat Knob Noster in three sets in Monday night's first round). St. Paul Lutheran rolled past Higginsville in two sets to win the district title and advance into the Class 2 state playoffs, and a sectional match-up with Holden High School on Saturday.
