Heading into Monday night's Senior Night battle with the rival Chillicothe Hornets, the Trenton High School girl's volleyball team spent last week trying to 'right the ship', after going through a rough stretch of play against strong competition to the west.

On Saturday, October 6th, the Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in the Riverside Tournament at Elwood, Kansas. Trenton lost to Riverside High School in the opener 12-25, 10-25 before falling to St. Joseph Christian by a score of 14-25, 18-25. Trenton did manage a victory in its third match, downing South Holt 25-19, 25-20.

Over the three matches, THS was led by Bekah Wiggins and Lakisha Hughs with three aces each; Gwen Delp with 33 digs; Kate Ewald with 18 assists; Katie Ireland with 12 kills; and Bekah Wiggins with three blocks.

Against the Lady Lions of St. Joseph Christian, on Monday night, October 8th at THS, the Lady Bulldogs sustained a difficult loss, playing well, but coming up short in two VERY competitive sets, 25-27, 24-26.

Courtney Weyer and Lakisha Hughs both had two aces, Gwen Delp had 12 digs, Kate Ewald eight assists, and Lakisha Hughs four kills for the Lady Bulldogs.

Playing what Coach Brett Ewald would later call Trenton's "strongest opponent of the season" on Tuesday night, October 9th, the Lady Bulldogs were swept at Bishop LeBlond by scores of 10-25, 13-25. The win improved the Golden Eagles season record to 28-1.

Trenton was paced by 11 digs from Delp, six assists from Ewald, five kills and one block for Hughs, and two blocks from Ireland.

The Trenton JV was defeated by LeBlond 12-25, 9-25.

Monday night's Chillicothe and Trenton match will begin at 5 o'clock from the THS Gymnasium.

Trenton will be in Class 2, District 14 next week at Higginsville, and has earned a NUMBER FIVE seed for that tournament. Other teams in the event will be Carrollton, Knob Noster, Higginsville, Lexington, and St. Paul Lutheran.

In first round action, on Monday, October 22nd, Knob Noster takes on Carrollton at 6 o'clock, followed by Trenton against Lexington at 7:30.

In the semifinals on Wednesday, October 24th, top-seeded St. Paul Lutheran draws the Carrollton-Knob Noster winner at 5 o'clock, with Higginsville playing the Trenton-Lexington winner at 6:30. The Class 2, District 14 championship match will follow on that Wednesday night at 8 o'clock.
