The NCMC Lady Pirates played Sunday in Overland Park, Kansas in the Heartland Jamboree. North Central faced three NJCAA Division I opponents, losing two games but winning the third as the young ladies improved their level of play throughout the day.
The first game was against Butler Community College of El Dorado, Kansas, with the Lady Pirates falling to the Grizzlies in an aggressive matchup.
The second game of the day was against Independence Community College of Independence, Kansas, with North Central losing by 12 in a hard fought battle.
The third game was against State Fair Community College of Sedalia, with the Lady Pirates coming out attacking against a traditionally tough foe and winning the game 52-28.
Head Coach Jenni Croy provided these comments to Sports Director Tom Johnson:
"I felt like we were in shock the first game of the day. It's always a rude awakening when we come down to this jamboree and face very aggressive teams. Our girls battled in the second game and came out much more focused and ready to play. We continued to improve in the third game and jumped out to an early 12-0 lead against State Fair. I am extremely proud of this group and how they performed after just 6 days of practice. "
NCMC's women will have a preseason scrimmage at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton against Graceland University on Tuesday, October 23 at 6 pm.
