The Livingston County Sheriff's Department says it is investigating two reports from the northwest part of the county where batteries were stolen from farm machinery and other heavy pieces of equipment. Sheriff Steve Cox said Livingston County Road and Bridge equipment was one of the machines hit by criminals.

Sheriff Cox is encouraging farmers and others who own heavy equipment and machinery, that is parked in rural areas, to take precautions to safeguard that equipment. He said thefts have occurred as recently as Wednesday night, October 3rd.

Cox said that most likely, batteries were stolen for salvage. Most of the batteries are described as 'very expensive', but only bring a few dollars for salvage. The Livingston County Sheriff's Department is working with adjoining counties on this case.
