The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, behind the momentum of four straight singles victories (from Maria Stevenson, Megan Derry, Megan Sole, and Magie Steinhoff) beat arch-rival Chillicothe 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon in the Class 1, District 16 team championship match, contested Tuesday afternoon at Trenton High School.

The match was played at Trenton, with the Lady Bulldogs earning the number one seed and Chillicothe seeded second for the tournament. On Monday, Chillicothe downed Savannah and Trenton defeated Maryville in the semifinal round.

The district final results were:

#1 Singles: Chillicothe's Sydnie Whiteside d. Trenton's Jaci Tracy 6-1, 6-2
#2 Singles: Chillicothe's Ali Stephens d. Trenton's Jessica Tracy 6-1, 6-2
#3 Singles: Trenton's Maria Stevenson d. Chillicothe's Chelsea Long 6-Love, 6-2
#4 Singles: Trenton's Megan Derry d. Chillicothe's Kelly Westphal 6-Love, 6-4
#5 Singles: Trenton's Megan Sole d. Chillicothe's Jozie Reeter 4-6, 7-6 with 7-5 tiebreak, 6-4
#6 Singles: Trenton's Magie Steinhoff d. Chillicothe's Steffany Gramenz, 6-Love, 6-Love

#1 Doubles: Chillicothe's Whiteside/Long d. Trenton's Tracy/Tracy 4-6, 7-6 with 7-5 tiebreak, 6-3
#2 Doubles: Trenton's Sole/Steinhoff d. Chillicothe's Westphal/Gramenz 6-Love, 6-2

Trenton won the match 5-3. Of note was the importance of Megan Sole's victory, rallying from one set down, and fighting through a tiebreaker with her back to the wall in the second set to stay alive and force a deciding third. At the time, the Bulldogs and the Hornets were tied at 2-2.

INDIVIDUAL districts will be hosted by Chillicothe, starting at 9 o'clock on Thursday morning. The district championship is the SECOND in as many years for THS, and the second in school history.
