Sports : Semifinal wins set up THS/CHS tennis district final today at 4:00

The rival Trenton Lady Bulldogs and Chillicothe Lady Hornets won semifinal challenges from Midland Empire Conference competition on Monday afternoon, advancing to the Class 1, District 16 championship match this (Tuesday) afternoon at 4 o'clock.

Maryville started the day at Trenton High School with a victory over Cameron, moving the Spoofhounds into the semifinals against top-seeded Trenton.

The match started with a thrilling victory at #1 singles for Trenton's Jaci Tracy, who downed Mara Veasy of Maryville 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2 tiebreak). That win was doubly important after the 'Hounds tied the match at 1 win each, with Emily Schreck beating Trenton's Jessica Tracy at #2 singles 6-1, 6-2.

Trenton dominated the match from that point, rolling to the team victory as Maria Stevenson beat Shannon Johnson at #3 singles 6-2, 6-Love, Megan Derry won her #4 singles match against Abbi Shipley 6-1, 6-1, Megan Sole downed Dalane Goodall at #5 singles 6-1, 6-Love, and Magie Steinhoff ended the match at #6 singles, 6-Love, 6-Love over Samantha Auffert.

The match ended with Trenton's fifth victory, with no doubles matches played.

Chillicothe won its semifinal duel with Savannah, bringing the Lady Hornets to Trenton High School at 4 o'clock today.

Trenton won both of its regular season duels with Chillicothe, on August 29th and September 20th.
