The Grundy County Commission today accepted the low bid for a bridge replacement project east of Trenton. The work will be done by Decker Construction Services of Lathrop with a construction bid of 274 thousand ($274,108) dollars.
A total of seven bids were received, ranging as high as 318 thousand dollars. The new structure on Southeast 8th STREET will span No Creek. It will be 24 feet wide and 86 feet long. It'll have steel girders and a concrete deck. This replaces an older and narrower truss bridge that has a wood deck.
Shannon Howe of the engineering firm Benton and Associates at Macon said the bridge replacement will be 100 percent federally-funded for Grundy County. Howe anticipates construction will start this fall.
