The Higginsville Huskers returned the opening kickoff of Friday night's football game against the Trenton Bulldogs, and never slowed down from there, scoring 42 unanswered points in the first half on their way to a 42-14 win that improves the Huskers record to 4-0, and drops the Bulldogs to 2-2.

Senior wide-out Tyrell Thirkeld returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a score, and after a Husker stop from the defense, the focus of the game turned to senior running back Cottry Lewis.

Lewis would score on an 83 and a 5 yard run in the first quarter, and add a 5 yard scoring run in the second quarter, part of a 93 yard rushing night for Higginsville, who added a 14 scoring catch by L.J. Williams and an 8 yard touchdown run by quarterback Adam Reid in the second quarter.

With junior varsity players seeing the majority of the playing time in the second half, Trenton outscored Higginsville, 14-0, with Austin Taul scoring on a 20 yard burst late in the third quarter, and Dalton Ellis hitting paydirt on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter. Both extra points were hit by senior Seth Acton. Colton Neff had a second consecutive strong Friday night running the ball for Trenton, getting 15 carries for 90 yards. Dillon Triplet had ten carries for 51 yards. Senior quarterback Jacob Spillman tried to loosen up the Huskers defense in the first half with short passes, and finished the night 6 of 15 for 46 yards.

Trenton will look to get back into the win column in their homecoming game this week, hosting the Pembroke Hill Raiders at 7 o'clock Friday night at C.F. Russell Stadium. Coverage on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com begins with 'Football Frenzy' at 5:30.
