Sports : Trenton Lady Bulldogs rumble past Brookfield (plus area scoreboard)

Leading 7-0 midway through Tuesday night's varsity softball game at Brookfield, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs handled a challenge from the home team with a two-run rally, putting away Brookfield by a 9-4 final score.

The game was scoreless through two innings when Trenton got things offensively in the third. McKinley Hurley singled and stole second and third base. Maddie Hooyman reached first on a walk and Madi Trump reached on a bunt single, leaving the bases loaded.

The Trenton runs followed thereafter, with a Scotlin Hurley single scoring her younger sister, while Hooyman and Trump made the score 3-0 on a Brookfield error. Megan Lynch, pinch-running for Hurley, scored on an RBI single by Kate Lowrey to make the score 4-0.

Trenton added three insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning, making the score 7-0 before Brookfield made its charge. The home team, in the bottom of the fifth, scored four runs (only one earned) to cut Trenton's lead to 7-4, but Trenton's two run uprising in the sixth finished the scoring.

Madi Trump was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, Scotlin Hurley 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI's, while Cassidy Cotton was 2 for 4 for the Lady Bulldogs, now 4-0 on the season. Hurley went the distance on the pitching rubber for Trenton, giving up only the one EARNED run while striking out six batters.

Trenton will next be in action on Saturday, playing at the Lexington Tournament, starting at 9 o'clock in the morning.

The Trenton JV softball team was defeated by Brookfield 6-4, while the Trenton Middle School softball team, behind three hits (including two doubles) from Whitley Richman and a two-hitter from Ashten Whitaker, beat Brookfield 16-1. Whitaker struck out three batters, while adding two hits with the bat. Renna Roberts, Jayden Roeder, and Jaylen Neff had two hits each (Neff's hits were both doubles).
