KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Trenton JV football opens 2012 season in shutout fashion

The Trenton junior varsity football open beat Carrollton 16-0 on Monday night, scoring one touchdown and one two-point conversion in each half to down the Trojans.

After a scoreless first quarter, Trenton took the lead in the second quarter, with Mason Mounce scoring a touchdown on a 15 yard run, and Dalton Ellis running the ball into the end zone for the two-point conversion.

Leading 8-0 at the half, the Bulldogs extended the lead in the third quarter, with Ellis scoring on a 14 yard run. Dakota Schultz converted the two points via the run. No scoring came in the fourth quarter, leaving the victory for THS.

The Trenton freshman ran into a tough LeBlond squad at C.F. Russell Stadium, and power problems late in the fourth quarter, but still managed a 14-14 draw against the Golden Eagles on Monday night.

The visitors from St. Joseph scored first, with a pass from Jack Schanze to Quinten Obermiller midway through the first quarter giving LeBlond a 6-0 lead (the conversion attempt failed). Trenton responded in the second quarter on a touchdown run of 54 yards by Colton Neff. This came two plays after Trenton had snapped a punt through the end zone, giving LeBlond an 8-0 lead.

Down 8-6, Trenton went for the two-point conversion and succeeded, with Neff running the ball in for the tie at 8 each.

Neither team scored in the third quarter (although Trenton's running game controlled play throughout), but the Bulldogs took their first lead on the night in the fourth quarter, as a Travis Leeper run of one yard gave Trenton a 14-8 lead, after the PAT was stopped.

LeBlond, on the very next drive, answered with a touchdown run of 19 yards by Alex Pyatt, leaving the score tied at 14 after the two-point conversion pass was batted away.

Travis Leeper of Trenton returned the ensuing kickoff to the LeBlond 22 yard line, and facing a fourth and goal late, a transformer on the southeast side of C.F. Russell Stadium blew. With the south bank of lights out, the Bulldogs were unable to crack the end zone, and the game ended in a tie score.
