Sports : THS volleyball opens season with back-to-back losses

The Trenton High School varsity volleyball team is still searching for its first victory of the season, having dropped matches on back-to-back nights against Lexington and Lawson.

On Monday night, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Lexington, with the Minutewomen claiming a 25-16, 25-13 victory. For THS, Kate Ewald had 11 assists, Kelsey Scott 7 digs, Lakisha Hughes 5 kills, Bekah Wiggins one ace, and Kelsey Scott and Katie Ireland each had a block.

The Trenton JV beat Lexington in three sets, with the leadership of Haley Mathews (who had four kills) and Malinda Foster (with seven assists) playing a key role.

Trenton's varsity fell in their home opener last (Tuesday) night by scores of 25-16, 25-10 to Lawson High School. Gwen Delp and Shanna Nichols each had five digs, Kate Ewald four assists, Bekah Wiggins three kills, Monica Weaver two aces, and Kelsey Scott and Bekah Wiggins one block each for Trenton.

The Lady Bulldog JV was downed by Lawson, 25-16, 25-12. Trenton is next in action on Thursday, September 6th, traveling to Carrollton High School to tangle with the Lady Trojans.
