Traffic on U.S. Highway 36 is no longer going head-to-head in Buchanan and DeKalb Counties, as of mid-afternoon Thursday. The Missouri Department of Transportation reports that this project is near completion. Westbound motorists will now experience a smoother five-mile section of Highway 36 in these two counties.
Crews were scheduled to open BOTH westbound lanes by mid-afternoon on Thursday. When this is completed, crews will begin to remove traffic control devices on the eastbound lanes. Eastbound traffic will continue to be restricted to one-lane traffic until traffic control devices have been removed, which could happen as early as Friday.
These improvements have resulted in a noticeably smoother and safer U.S. Highway 36 east of St. Joseph.
