A new sally-port security door has been installed at the Livingston County Jail in Chillicothe. The previous door was broken on the night of July 4th in the escape of two inmates. Inspection indicated the old door was not repairable and, according to Sheriff Steve Cox, would not consistently "lock down".
The Livingston County Commission authorized the emergency expenditure for the replacement security system. The previous system was original equipment from when the jail opened in 1978.
This door is raised and lowered many times each day as the primary way to drop off, pick up, or to lawfully release inmates at the jail. The recent work was completed by Custom Door at a cost of $5,400.
