Men from Chula and the state of Tennessee were injured in what the Highway Patrol called a nearly head-on crash yesterday (Monday) morning on U-S 65 in rural Carroll County (three miles north of County Road 150).

The Highway Patrol said 22-year old Jeffery Bowman of Chula received SERIOUS injuries and was flown by air ambulance to the Truman Medical Center. The driver of a tractor-trailer, 56 year old Daniel Atchley of Camden, Tennessee
received minor injuries and was taken to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

The patrol investigator said Bowman (for an unknown reason) had his southbound pickup cross the center line of U-S 65 and hit the northbound truck.

After impact, the big truck hauling flour as its
cargo ran off the highway and caught fire. The unit was destroyed by fire. Bowman's pickup also was demolished. The Patrol said Bowman was not wearing a seat belt while Atchley DID
have a safety device on.
