A woman arrested in Milan for the death of her newborn infant in Minnesota, entered a guilty plea on Wednesday while in court in Gaylord, Minnesota. Sources say 29 year old Amy Romero entered a plea of guilty to charges of second-degree manslaughter for abandoning her newborn daughter and leaving her outdoors to die in the woods near her Minnesota home in 2001.

The Associated Press reports that Romero will serve an eight-year prison sentence. That is described as double what is recommended under Minnesota sentencing guidelines.

Romero had been indicted on charges ranging from first degree murder to endangerment or neglect of a child. Trial had initially been set for next month (September) in Minnesota. Romero was living in Milan at the time of her arrest in early 2012.
