Sports : North Mercer's Sierra Michaelis chooses Mizzou
Posted by Tom on 2012/7/17 10:40:00 (1214 reads) News by the same author

North Mercer High School senior Sierra Michaelis has given a verbal commitment to the University of Missouri women's basketball program, choosing the Tigers over other interested suitors from Nebraska, Creighton, Drake, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Michaelis' decision is a non-binding commitment, meaning she could change her mind and sign elsewhere on November 14th, but all indications are that the high-scoring Lady Cardinal is Columbia-bound, and her mind is made up. Media reports say that Michaelis was officially offered a scholarship by Coach Robin Pingeton on Monday, an offer accepted less than 24 hours later.

The Missouri women's basketball program appears to be making positive strides on the recruiting trail, and those strides are necessary with Coach Pingeton's program coming off a last-place finish in 2011-2012 in the Big 12 Conference and now making the move into the equally difficult Southeastern Conference, which includes powerhouse programs at Tennessee and LSU, to name just a few.
