Sports : St. Joseph News-Press reports Mercer's Michaelis "closing in" on college decision

The long-awaited college choice for North Mercer girl's basketball standout Sierra Michaelis could be coming, perhaps sooner than later. The St. Joseph News-Press had a conversation with Michaelis within the past few days in which the Lady Cardinal senior-to-be indicated that she would like to give a verbal commitment to a school "by the end of July".

The Missouri women's basketball program and head coach Robin Pingeton has made a strong push to get the high scoring Michaelis, and there are indications of mutual interest between the Mercer native and the Tigers. Others "in the mix" for Michaelis are Nebraska, Creighton, Drake, DePaul, and Indiana. Michaelis told the News-Press that she has "narrowed her list down to a couple of schools", but she did not specifically name those schools.

Michaelis is on pace to become the leading scorer in the history of Missouri high school girl's basketball by the end of her senior season in March 2013.
