Vehicles driven by 40-year old Erin Parnell of Osborn and 60-year old Lila Bell-Wietharn of Kansas City were involved in an accident on U.S. Highway 71 in Cass County late Friday morning, injuring three northwest Missouri residents.

The Highway Patrol says that the Bell-Wietharn vehicle and the Parnell vehicle were both traveling northbound on U.S. 71, just before 11:30 on Friday morning, when Parnell slowed for traffic congestion, and was hit from behind by Bell-Wietharn.

Three injuries were reported as a result of the collision. Lila Bell-Wietharn's injuries were described as minor. She was transported to Belton Regional Medical Center. A passenger in her vehicle, 69-year old Dwight Wietharn of Kansas City, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Research Main Hospital. A passenger in the Parnell vehicle, 21-year old Wendy Saunders of St. Joseph, suffered minor injuries, and refused treatment at the scene.
