Livingston County Deputy Sheriff Jay Cooksey has submitted his resignation after being employed with the office since November 2007. He has served as a detention officer and deputy sheriff.
Sheriff Steve Cox says Cooksey does not want to leave the department, but due to the need to better provide for his family, he has accepted employment elsewhere for better pay and benefits.
Cox said his department has started the hiring selection process for the Deputy Sheriff's position. Cooksey's resignation is the fourth in the department in the past several weeks, all done with the reason of finding "better pay and benefits" elsewhere.
