There are FIVE entries for the Texaco Country Showdown on Saturday night in downtown Trenton. The talent contest is sponsored locally by the PAR Broadcast Group (KTTN AM-FM, KGOZ-FM). The performances will begin at 7 o'clock in the Sesquicentennial Park area at Five Points. Admission is FREE.

For the first time in the history of the Trenton event, there is a band performing, featuring 13 and 14 year old boys from the cities of Lenexa, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Other performers will be SOLOISTS. They are 18 year old Jessica Ellis of Trenton, 19 year old Felisha Bertrand of Princeton, 13 year old Bailey Pickering of Hamilton, and 28 year old Charlsie Harris of Garden City (Missouri).

The winner of the local competition will advance to the Texaco Country Showdown's STATE competition to be held this fall in the St. Louis suburb of Arnold, Missouri.

Some of the streets in the vicinity of Five Points will be blocked off by cones during the set-up and performances as a safety measure for pedestrians. Although limited seating is available on park benches, spectators are encouraged to take lawn chairs. Kettle corn and bottled water will be available.

Preceding Saturday night's music show will be a summer barbecue hosted by the Wesley United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 o'clock.
