The Highway Patrol reports a Kirksville boy was fatally injured in an all terrain vehicle accident early Sunday evening in rural Adair County. The operator of the A-T-V was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DWI.

According to the report, seven year old Brody Schoonover, was a passenger on an A-T-V when the machine overturned on top of him. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Another boy who was a passenger, six year old Aiden Nevars of Austin, Texas was NOT reported injured although officers said someone would probably seek treatment for him later. The operator of the A-T-V, 26 year old William Arrieta of Austin, Texas received minor injuries and was taken by the state trooper to Northeast Regional Medical Center of Kirksville.

An officer said the driver apparently lost control of the A-T-V, over-corrected, with the machine crossing the center of the road where it overturned.

The patrol also reported Arrieta was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and there are pending charges for investigation of felony involuntary manslaughter because of the death of a child. The accident happened on the Sand Creek Bottom Road at Route B, five miles southwest of Greentop.
