KTTN/KGOZ News : Area meetings examine road funding issues
Posted by Tom on 2012/5/29 8:30:00 (151 reads) News by the same author

Input continues to be sought regarding how to provide more funding for roads and bridges across Missouri. The "Blue Ribbon Citizens Committee on Missouri Transportation Needs" is holding public meetings around the state this spring and summer to receive input from citizens and stakeholders.

The committee is a 21 member panel of business leaders, contractors, and special interest groups from across the state. That committee was appointed in March by Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley.

One of the meetings was last week in St. Joseph. Green Hills Regional Planning Commission Director Randy Railsback was among the presenters. Railsback discussed what a transportation advisory committee from the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission recommends:

MoDOT, for years, has warned about upcoming "shortfalls" in funding, and Railsback said those that testified at the meeting in St. Joseph said it is time to do something:

Railsback explained that is less expensive to maintain what we already have, rather than to allow it to deteriorate to a point where money MUST be used for repairs:

Railsback explains what people should do if they wish to provide input on this issue:

Railsback said NCMC's Steve Maxey was among those in attendance at last week's public meeting in St. Joseph.
