Sports : Trenton Bulldogs finish seventh at Class 2 state golf tournament

Putting up a team score of 684, the Trenton Bulldogs finished in seventh place out of eight teams at the Class 2 Missouri State boy's golf tournament, held at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield.

Trenton shot 343 on Monday and 341 on Tuesday, finishing ahead of the 704 team score shot by eighth-place Palmyra.

The state championship team is Whitfield, after they shot a two-day score of 622, followed by runner-up St. Peters Lutheran with 648, and third-place Mount Vernon at 650.

Other scores were Barstow at 654, Springfield Catholic with 664, and Hermann at 682.

The Class 2 individual champion is Mitchell Rutledge of Whitfield, with a two-day score of 141, good for one-under par and six strokes better than runner-up David Abolt's 147. Abolt is a Cuba High School student. Third place went to Justin Wrozier of St. Peters Lutheran at 149.

Lake Harmon (Brookfield) - 176 (59th place)
Lane Beverlin (Trenton) - 177 (65th place)
Austin Norris (Trenton) - 183 (76th place)
Joey Christenson (Trenton) - 198 (85th place)

Class 1 was contested at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa. Sacred Heart is the state champion with a score of 641, with Drexel runner-up at 660, and Linn High School in third place at 668. LaPlata is fourth at 669, with Mound City eighth (763), and Mid-Buchanan ninth (773).

The individual state champion in Class 1 is Sacred Heart's John Beykirch, with an 11 over-par score of 153.

Marceline's Tim Jordan finished in fourth place, medaling with a score of 158.
