KTTN/KGOZ Sports : Trenton's Aubrey Utley leads CMU softball team to opening round win at national tournament

Trenton High School Class of 2010 graduate Aubrey Utley fired a seven-hit shutout for the Central Methodist Eagles, leading her softball team to a 2-0 victory over the Houston-Victoria (Texas) Jaguars in an opening round game in the 2012 NAIA National Championship Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

CMU scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, winning the contest with the benefit of only four hits.

The tournament consists of 32 teams from across the country, divided into eight pools featuring four teams each. Central Methodist is in a pool with William Carey (Mississippi), a 47-9 team; 44-11 Indiana Wesleyan, and the Houston-Victoria team it matched up with on Thursday.

Central Methodist will play William Carey Friday afternoon at 12:30, and then play Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.

In her SOPHOMORE season at Central Methodist, Utley has an earned run average of 1.31 with a record of
26-5-1.

The eight WINNERS of each pool will move into a double-elimination tournament that will start on Monday, culminating with the national championship game on Wednesday, May 23rd at 12:30.
