The Highway Patrol said 76 year old Frank Kawakami of Cameron was eastbound on Gridley Road, when his pickup began sliding as he applied the brakes, the truck slid onto DeKalb County Route EE. A southbound vehicle on EE, driven by 29 year old Joseph Smith of Cameron, attempted to avoid a collision by steering to the right. His vehicle ran partially off the road and hit the pickup.

The Highway Patrol said Smith and a passenger, 31 year old John Whitmore received minor injuries while another passenger, 26 year old Tracy Whitmore, sustained MODERATE injuries. All three were taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center. The driver of the pickup (Frank Kawakami) was not reported hurt. Damage was moderate to the pickup and extensive for the other vehicle.
