The Trenton and LeBlond girl's tennis teams locked up in a tense, close battle on Tuesday afternoon in St. Joseph, with the Lady Bulldogs winning five matches, to LeBlond's four, as Trenton grabbed an important early season team win.
Trenton won four of the six singles matches played against the Golden Eagles, with Alvynne Villacampa beating Savannah Sanai at #1 singles, 8-4, Hannah Sowder winning at #2 singles (over Nauy Bui) 8-4, Trenton's Ashley Allen winning at #3 singles (8-3 over Danica Gall), and Hannah Robinson winning a swing match at #5 singles, 8-2 over Jaileigh Hamlin.
Heading into doubles, Trenton needed to avoid being swept by LeBlond to take the victory home, and the #2 team of Sowder and Robinson got the job done with an 8-4 win over Bui and Joe of LeBlond.
LeBlond's victories over Trenton were:

#6 singles : Katelyn Joe d. Hannah Farmer 8-6
#1 doubles : Sanai/Gall d. Villacampa/Utley 8-8 (9-7 tiebreak)

The schools played three JV doubles matches against one another, with Trenton dominating play. The team of Samantha Mihalovich and Alainey Fair beat Squires/Robinson 6-1, Cassidy Trump and Abbie Shuler combined for a 7-5 win over Bell/Davies, while Codi DeLong and Madison Untiedt beat Lauren Kempf/Alexandria Kempf 6-love.
With the momentum of Tuesday's road win behind them, Trenton will be aiming for more success today (Wednesday), playing in the Chillicothe Quad, starting up at 9 o'clock in the morning.
Chillicothe warmed up for their own tournament with a 9-0 tennis blitzing of MEC rival Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon. For the Lady Hornets, Sydnie Whiteside, Ali Stephens, Jozie Reeter, and Chelsea Long took 10-0 singles wins. Kelly Westphal and Renee Downing won by nearly as dominant 10-1 finals.
In doubles, the Lady Hornets took three straight 8-love victories in rolling to the easy win over the Fighting Irish.
In another MEC tennis competition, from the Noyes Complex in St. Joseph, the Benton Cardinals beat Cameron, 7-2. The Lady Dragons only head-to-head victories on the day came from #4 singles player Morgan Choate 8-1, and from #5 singles player Taylor Richardson 8-6.
