Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the Kansas City Star is reporting a $17 million per year agreement, including $45 million in guaranteed money. Smith had one year remaining on a contract that was set to pay him $7.5 million this season.

Last season, his first in Kansas City, Smith set a career-high with 3,313 passing yards. He threw for 23 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. He was the first overall pick in the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, and will be starting his 10th NFL season this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium.
