The visiting Lawson Cardinals scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on Tuesday night, stunning Trenton and spoiling the Lady Bulldogs home opener, 2-1, in a game heard on Hot Country Z 101.7.
Trenton had ample opportunities to push its record to 3-0, but THS left nine runners on base during the contest, including two each in the sixth and seventh innings. The Lady Bulldogs also struggled on the basepaths, losing one runner trying to stretch a single to a double, and another, in the final inning, trying to reach second base on a potential wild pitch.
Trenton took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, with McKinley Hurley's lead-off triple followed by a sacrifice fly by Whitley Richman.
Lawson's winning rally in the sixth saw the second hit of the game for Bethany Jacobsen, and a run scored, along with a run scored by Kerstin Huffman on a squeeze bunt by Amy Walker.
Trenton senior Mallory Hooyman absorbed the tough-luck defeat, scattering six hits over seven innings, while Logan Teegarden worked through jams all night long to earn the victory, improving Lawson's season record to 2-2, with back-to-back wins over Chillicothe and Trenton.
It was a disappointed Trenton Coach John Cowling after the game, both in the result, and how the Lady Bulldogs level of play and concentration played into the final score:
